Evolve boys win Disney Classic

Team Evolve’s seventh grade team went 6-0 and won the Disney Fall Classic over the weekend in Orlando. Team Evolve won every game by at least 17 points and beat three of Florida’s top AAU teams along the way. Team Evolve’s seventh grade boys basketball team won the Disney Fall Classic, going 6-0 to win the championship, last weekend in Orlando.

Team Evolve beat the Lake Worth Pride 63-46 in the championship game Sunday evening. The 17-point margin over the Pride was the closest game Evolve faced in the tourney.

Evolve went through the Brevard Storm, Florida’s AAU Div. II state champions, and the Broward Storm, the state runner-up in Florida’s Div. I.

In pool play, Evolve beat Brevard 55-24 and the Lake Mary Magic 69-6. In elimination play, Evolve started with a 62-25 win against Poinciana Hoops. Evolve beat Rising Stars Orlando 67-25 in the quarterfinals and the Broward Storm 79-61 in the semis.

Frank Davis is the head coach along with assistant Mike Covington.

Joshua Bivens, Kevin Davis Jr., Jeremiah Bivens and Joshua Covington go to John Yeates Middle School. Deshaun Wethington goes to John F. Kennedy Middle. John Spearman and Akil Freeman go to King’s Fork Middle, Jaquan Yulee goes to Forest Glen Middle.

Devante Carter and Chris Orella are from Newport News. Tyler Bambry is from Prince George County and Chris Novell is from Weldon, N.C.
