A White Marsh Road man was convicted Thursday of shooting his neighbor’s dog in March.

Robert W. McCrory was found guilty of malicious wounding of a dog and misdemeanor animal cruelty. He was given a suspended sentence of six months on each charge.

The incident happened March 11, when McCrory was walking his two dogs in the driveway. The neighbor’s 4-year-old boxer escaped from its house when someone opened the door, prosecutor Susan Walton said Thursday.

McCrory said he would shoot the dog if it came in his yard. Soon, it came into his yard, and he made good on his promise.

The dog suffered injuries to one of its eyes, Walton said.

McCrory also was sentenced to complete anger management courses, pay restitution for the dog’s veterinary bills and have no contact with his neighbors. He will serve one year of probation.
