NORFOLK — Retha Woodard Spruiell, 84, of the 1200 block of W. 26th Street, passed away Aug. 15, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born in Littleton, N.C. Retha retired from Norfolk General Hospital as a nursing assistant.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Marion Woodard; husband, John Spruill; and son, Joseph M. Spruiell.

Survivors include five sons, Thomas Woodard, John, Matthew, Linwood and Michael Spruiell; two sisters, Helen Rosser and Beulah Harris; two brothers, Frank Woodard and Joe Woodard; 26 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St., Suffolk, Va., the Rev. Steven G. Blunt, officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A wake service will be held Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Graves Funeral Home.
