Erma Mae Brown, 87, of 107 Reid St., Suffolk, Va., died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Gates County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Abram and Mary Minor Eason. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Brown; two sons, Charlie H. Brown Jr. and James M. Brown; and one brother, Augustus Eason.

She attended Obici Nursing School and retired as a nursing assistant at Obici Hospital. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Audrey Turner (Lewis), of Virginia Beach, Va., and Charlotte Brown, of Suffolk; one son, Vernon Brown (Harriet), of Suffolk; three sisters, Maggie Todd, of Rockville Center, N.Y., Elizabeth Eason, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bessie Munroe of West End, Grand Bahamas; two brothers, Sylvester Eason, of Hempistead, N.Y., and James Eason, of West Hempistead, N.Y.; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Brown, of Laurenburg, N.C.; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
