VIRGINIA BEACH — George Alexander Burdell Jr., 75, of 1140 Geranium Crescent, Virginia Beach, passed away Aug. 25, 2011, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Columbia, S.C., he was son of the late George A. Burdell Sr. and Thelma L. Burdell. He was also predeceased by his sister, Teresa Fisher and brother, Donell Fisher.

Mr. Burdell attended Tidewater Community College and was retired from the Navy after 25 years of service and was also a retired nuclear materials specialist for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Galatians United Church of Christ, Suffolk, where he was a trustee, Sunday school teacher and member of the Men’s Fellowship.

He leaves to cherish memories, his wife, Patricia Burdell, of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Sheron Johnson (William), of Virginia Beach, Deborah Pittman (Kelvin), of Baton Rouge, La., and Donna Burdell, of Virginia Beach; one son, Gerald Burdell, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two stepchildren, Nyree Newbold (John), of Bristow, Va., and Jonathan Blick, of Virginia Beach; one sister, Elexzena Williamson, of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St., Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Madelene Beard, pastor of Galatians UCC. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.
