The Peanut Fest is fast approaching, and ticket sales for some of the events leading up to the festival are going on now.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Queen’s Luncheon, where the Peanut Fest Queen and her court will be honored. The queen is chosen from among two students from each high school, based on a written essay.

“This is the first official event leading up to the Peanut Fest,” said Cathy Richards, a member of the Pilot Club of Suffolk.

The Queen’s Luncheon is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This year’s master of ceremonies will be Ross Boone, the 2007 Suffolk First Citizen. There also will be a fashion show provided by Denison’s during the luncheon.

“People should come and support the high school students as well as the Pilot Club of Suffolk,” Richards said. “All of their proceeds go back into the community.”

The Queen’s Luncheon will be held at noon Sept. 29 at the Suffolk National Guard Armory. Tickets are $15 and are being sold at the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St.

Coming on Oct. 6, the Suffolk Ruritan Club Shrimp Feast also will help raise money for a community organization. Held at the festival grounds at the airport, attendees at the Shrimp Feast get all-you-can-eat steamed shrimp, fried chicken, barbecue and side items, as well as drinks.

Music will be provided by Island Boy and the JaneDear Girls. The event lasts from 3 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at a variety of locations, including but not limited to Jeff Robertson Optometrist, Mike Duman Auto Sales, Commonwealth Bank, Xenith Bank, Roy’s and Ricky’s Catering, Bennett’s Creek Pharmacy, Quality Cleaners, the Visitor Center and the Peanut Fest office.

In addition, advance sales for Peanut Fest parking decals also are under way. Decals good for all four days are on sale for $20 each. They allow unlimited visits to the festival. Without the decal, parking is $10 for each visit. Decals can be purchased at the Visitor Center or any Suffolk location of Holiday Food Stores.

The Peanut Festival will be held Oct. 6-9. For more information on Peanut Fest, call 539-6751 or visit www.suffolkfest.org.
