Show features variety of mediums
Brenda Wright is going all out with some of her artist friends to celebrate 15th anniversary of Shooting Star Gallery.
Wright opened the gallery on the lower floor of her denture clinic in 1996. She said she’s celebrating the 15th anniversary because she’s not sure if she’ll see the 20th.
“I never assume,” she said. “If I make it, I’ll celebrate the 20th, too.”
The show will feature Wright’s photography, sculptures by Sam Glasscock and paintings by Betsy Brothers.
“Painting, sculpture and photography, that’s a real good basic three,” she said. “But those two people in particular (Glasscock and Brothers) have had a huge impact on this community because of their participation in the arts, particularly the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.”
Wright said neither Glasscock nor Brothers has ever been in a small gallery show before, so it is a first for them.
The show also will highlight custom jewelry by several local artists, including Wright, Sandy Lupton and Jill Tiderman.
An official celebration will be held Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the gallery, 118 N. Main St. Steve Gellas of Primo 116 will provide the food for the event.
In addition, Wright said, Glasscock’s two daughters, Linda Bunch and Lisa Miller, will be in attendance. Bunch’s pottery and Miller’s country music CD will be displayed. The CD will be available for purchase.
The show will be on display until Oct. 22. For more information, call 934-0855 or email sutnstar@aol.com. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
