Suffolk Art League offers fall classes

Suffolk Art League, in cooperation with the Suffolk Art Gallery, will offer a variety of art classes and workshops for students ages 3 to adult. These will be held at the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave. (formerly the Suffolk Museum).
Unless otherwise noted, the registration deadline is one week prior to the beginning of each class. Students should wear clothing appropriate for working with art materials or bring a paint shirt or smock.

Young Artists
Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14, 2 to 3 p.m.
For ages: 3 to 5
Instructor: Linda Bunch
Registration fee is $6 SAL members/$8 non-members per session.
Your artists will have fun while participating in age-appropriate art activities. Students will use their natural creativity while exploring a theme through a variety of art materials each month. All necessary materials included.
Art Explorations
Tuesdays, Oct. 25 through Nov. 22 (no class 11/8), 4:30 to 6 p.m.
For ages 6 to 14
Instructor: Alicia Johnson
Registration fee is $40 SAL members/$45 non-members
Students will use different art materials and explore a variety of art techniques from chalk paintings and mosaics to faux stained glass and print making. They will look at other cultures and art genres for inspiration for their artwork. All necessary materials included.
Greencrafting
Oct. 27, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
For ages 8 to 14
Instructor: Kathy Rose
Registration fee is $15 SAL members/$18 non-members
This workshop will focus on creating arts and crafts from recycled and repurposed objects. Students will be encouraged to rethink how everyday objects and materials can be used to create works of art. All necessary materials included.
Inch by Inch Paintings
Nov. 17, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
For ages 8 to 14
Instructor: Kathy Rose
Registration fee is $15 SAL members/$18 non-members
Good things come in small sizes! Students will use inch-size canvases to create works of original art. Mediums used can include paint, ink, papers, glue, collage, markers and crayons. Students will have the opportunity to complete up to four canvases in class. All necessary materials included.
Clay Nativity I and II
Nov. 19
Clay Nativity I — 10 a.m. to noon
Clay Nativity II — 1 to 3 p.m.
Session I for ages 5 to 12
Session II for ages 6 to 14

Registration fee is $12 SAL members/$16 non-members
In Clay Nativity I, students will have the opportunity to make clay figures representing Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus in a manger.
In Clay Nativity II, students will have the opportunity to add to their Nativity Sets by making clay figures represent one of the following choices: two shepherds and two sheep; three kings and a camel; or barnyard animals.
Figures will be fired and returned to the Suffolk Art Gallery for pick up. All materials and firings included in registration fee.
Intermediate/Advanced Pastel
Tuesdays, Oct. 25 through Nov. 29, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For ages 14 to adult

Registration fee is $42 SAL members/$48 non-members per session.
Pastels are one of the best art mediums for beginning artists, allowing them to improve their drawing skills while learning about uses of color. Beginning students will start with basic drawing and color exercises, building to more complex compositions. Intermediate and advanced students will continue to improve their drawing skills while working on subjects of their own choice. Classes will include instruction on compositions, uses of color and a variety of pastel techniques and materials as well as constructive critiques. Individual and class instruction will be offered. Quilting and Special
Projects Quilting Classes
Quilting — Thursdays, Oct. 13 through Nov. 3
Special Project Quilting — Saturdays, Oct. 1 through Oct. 29 (no class 10/8)

For adults
Instructor: Emily Dalton
Registration fee is $30 SAL members/$33 non-members per session
The Quilting Class welcomes those interested in learning about quilting, whether beginners or seasoned quilters. Students will have the opportunity to explore and discover some of the many techniques and methods used to create quilts and quilted items. In the Special Projects Quilting Class, students will have the opportunity to work with an expert quilter to turn fabric into family heirlooms. Students are encouraged to bring their quilting ideas and projects to class. Basic sewing experience is required. A suggested materials list is available at time of registration.
Watercolor
and Acrylic Painting
Thursdays, Oct. 6 through Nov. 17 (no class 10/20), 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
For ages 14 to adult
Instructor: Barbara West
Registration fee is $50 SAL members/$60 non-members
This class begins with instruction on basic skills and techniques use in watercolor and acrylic painting. Students will learn how to determine color values and create different effects and textures in their paintings. Following these demonstrations and exercises, students may bring reference materials from which they can create a painting of their own. A complete suggested materials list is available at time of registration or pay a $20 materials fee, which includes all necessary materials.
