Warriors roll in second half

In the backfield: Senior LaMont Brown rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns as Nansemond River won 27-3 at Deep Creek Friday night. It was the third 200-plus yard game on the ground for Brown this season. The Warriors (3-2, 2-2) host Indian River this Friday night.

Nansemond River’s Stevon Simms returned the kickoff to start the second half 84 yards for a touchdown for the first six of 27 unanswered points by the Warriors in a district win at Deep Creek Friday night.

The Hornets led 3-0 at the half before the Warriors (3-2, 2-2) took over. Senior running back LaMont Brown rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns, including one on a 75-yard run in the third quarter.

Alex Kase threw to Shannon Evans for a 42-yard touchdown in the fourth period.

Nansemond River’s defense held the Hornets to 24 rushing yards and six passing yards.

Nansemond River meets Indian River on Friday at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium.
