CPS investigates festival incident

Visitors to Peanut Fest on Sunday heard shocking messages over the loudspeaker repeatedly calling for whoever had lost a 5-year-old boy to come to the information booth to retrieve him.
After more than an hour passed, with the message repeated at regular intervals — and with the festival about to close — the announcer, his voice betraying what seemed to be exasperation, said over the loudspeakers that whoever had lost the 5-year-old boy would have to go to the police department’s command post to retrieve him.
As it turned out, according to Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George, the young boy had become separated from his mother at the festival and was taken to the police command post while police attempted to locate his mother.
The woman, who had five children with her at the festival, ultimately came to the command post to pick up her son, George said.
The incident has been referred to Child Protective Services, George added, but no charges have been filed.
