The Nansemond River Pilot Club will host its 2011 Craft Show and Fall Fair at the National Guard Armory, 2761 Godwin Blvd., on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a variety of food and items available for purchase, including Brunswick stew and barbecue, fall pansies, snapdragons, homemade jewelry, scrapbook items, personalized gifts, purses, home décor, fall arrangements, metal art and other craft vendors.

“This is our second or third year that we have had this,” said Jane Speight, publicity chair for the fall fair. “We have all these vendors that are having a fit to get out there and sell their wares.”

All proceeds go back into the community through contributions to various charities. The Pilot Club’s main focus is helping to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases, disorders and injuries of the brain. Locally, it supports the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and Project Lifesaver and travels to schools with the Brainminders program, which helps educate children to wear helmets and take other potentially life-saving actions while playing.

“It’s such a nice fall fair,” Speight said. “We’re going to have a lot of vendors and a lot of good food. You can eat lunch there while you’re shopping.”
