“May the work I’ve done speak for me.”
Ellen Jane Saunders Britt was born Dec. 8, 1927, to the late Herman and India Parham Saunders in Surry County. On Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, God whispered, “Come home my child, come home, for I have prepared a place for you” to our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Our beloved Matriarch obeyed and quietly slipped away to be with our Lord.
A lifelong member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Ellen served faithfully as an usher, a missionary and a prayer warrior until her health began to fail.
She was united in Holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late George B. Britt for more than 40 years, until he met his demise on Dec. 16, 1984.
She was preceded in death by two sons, George Alvin Britt and “Baby Boy” Britt.
Ellen leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Iola M. Britt, Belinda Y. Skeeter, Gloria L. Brinkley (James) and Ellen B. Johnson (Henry); one sister-in-law, Thelma Ford; one brother-in-law, Edward Britt; nine grandchildren, Lemuel D. Britt Sr., Demetrius A. Skeeter (Trovell), Shaleta R. Norfleet (Na’kia), Kenyon L. Britt, Latanya N. Brinkley, Demita A. Robinson and Tyneki S. Vick, Demonte’ L. Ingram and Walter R. Ingram; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, from noon until 6 p.m., and a wake from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral will take place at Olive Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
