Company to locate at Shirley T. Holland Intermodal Park

WINDSOR — Gov. Bob McDonnell today will announce plans by a food processing company to move to the Shirley T. Holland Intermodal Park in Windsor, where 800 new jobs will be created.

County Economic Development Director Lisa Perry on Thursday would not release the name of the company, which will invest at least $150 million. Perry did say it would be “a perfect fit” for the 1,500-acre intermodal park on U.S. Route 460.

“They need gas, electric, water and rail,” Perry said. “All the county’s investment in the park has led to this announcement.”

Perry added that her office is in the final stages of luring another manufacturer to the intermodal park, and talks with a third company are beginning.

“We’ve been really working hard,” she said. “Landing a project of this magnitude is proof of the work we’ve been doing. This is a very, very exciting time.”

The announcement by McDonnell will be made at 11:15 a.m. at the Johnson Development Associates Building inside the intermodal park. McDonnell’s office remained tight-lipped on further details.

“We do not comment on unannounced economic development projects,” said Press Secretary Jeff Caldwell.
