Sylvia Ann Foreman Childs was born on April 15, 1938 in Elizabeth City, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Tommy Foreman and Alice Whedbee. In the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, Sylvia went home to glory to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wardell Childs; sister, Mandy S. Shepherd; and brother, William Foreman.

“Miss Childs” as she was affectionately called, was a follower of Christ and was a devoted member of St. Paul RZUA Church where she served as a member of the choir, the usher board and also president of the youth ushers. She was employed as a daycare provider. She was as much in love with the children as they were her.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Mattie A. Rodgers (Alvin), of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Alicia “Dani” Rodgers and Christopher “Chris” Rodgers; sister-in-law, Ruth Foreman; one aunt, Eunice Foreman; five nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
