After a long, powerful fight, Alvin Darnell Williams of the 3000 block of Pinebark Road, Portsmouth, Va., was called to his reward on Nov. 23, 2011.

He was educated in Suffolk Public Schools and was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He served in the Armed Forces for 12 years.

Until his illness, he was employed by Dominion/Surry Nuclear Power Plant for 26 years.

Alvin was an active member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Williams, two daughters, Angelina and Kimberly Williams; mother, Elizabeth Guess; grandmother, Ola Pittman; four sisters, Linda Eason, Shirley Skinner (Elton), Mary Williams and Debbie Wilson; four brothers, Calvin Williams, Herbert Williams (Brenda), Melvin Williams (Cynthia), of Suffolk, and Kevin Thomas; brother-in law, Kenneth Evans (Bernadette); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Williams will be on view at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 26 from noon to 6 p.m. A home going service will be conducted at Metropolitan Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Dr. Robert Hobbs. He will be laid to rest at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
