On Nov. 24, 2011, the Almighty and wise God called to rest John Thomas Parker. John, affectionately known as “Harvey” was born on Dec. 14, 1947, to the late Leno C. and Thomas Parker.
He attended Nansemond County Public Schools and was employed by Southern Pioneer Inc. for many years.
John was preceded in death by his siblings, Lovell Watson, Minnie Matthew, Helen Mary Tensley, Eyvonne Schrate, Robert Parker and Thomas Parker.
He leaves behind to cherish his beautiful memory and to celebrate his life, his devoted wife of 30 years, Doris Parker; daughter, Natisha L. Turner (Joseph); two grandchildren, Jordan and Jade Turner; four brothers, Phillip Parker (Dr. Viola) and William Collins (Evelyn), Raleigh Collins (Lily), Rudolph Parker; three sisters, Dorothy L. Parker, Barbara Ann Parker and Delois Parker; two aunts, Margaret Picott and Esther Langston; brothers-in-law, Clarence Goodman (Louise F.) and George Goodman (Teresa); sisters-in-law, Venora Worrell and Dorothy Goodman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
Mr. Parker visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 2 between the hours of noon and 7 p.m. A funeral service will take place at New Gospel Temple C.O.G.I.C. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at noon, and he will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
