Rawley William Lewter, 93, of 507 Spruce St. Ext., died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was the son of the late Charlie T. Lewter Sr. and Lillie Peele Lewter. He was predeceased by a sister, Clarine Artis, and three brothers, Charlie T. Lewter Jr., Elton Lewter and Clyde Lewter.

He retired from Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. He was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church, where he served as Deacon Emeritus, a trustee and a member of the Senior Choir and Male Chorus. He served in many organizations and capacities such as past treasurer and past exalted ruler of the Greater Suffolk Lodge No. 206 I.B.P.O.E., past worshipful master of Mount Vernon Lodge No. 48 PHA, and past patron of the Nansemond Chapter No. 31 Order of the Eastern Star.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted son, Ronald L. Lewter (Donna); two grandchildren, Tionna L. Fulgham and Jaleesa M. Lewter; goddaughter, Chandra Godette; brothers, Wallace Lewter (Marion) and Melvin Lewter; caregivers, great-niece Julia Artis, Allen Williford; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Christian Church officiated by Bishop Carlton R. Upton Sr. The family will be at 507 Spruce St. Ext.
