A Suffolk Fire and Rescue battalion chief is charged with drunken driving after a Friday night incident, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
A Suffolk police officer observed a vehicle stopped at a traffic light on Holland Road, George said. The car remained stopped through two cycles of the light, so the officer approached the car.
He allegedly found Charles Knight, a battalion chief, as the driver, George said. The officer allegedly observed the odor of alcohol about his person, she added.
The incident occurred in Knight’s personal vehicle while he was off duty, she said.
Knight is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, refusal to submit to a blood or breath test and reckless driving. He is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation, George said.
