Lawrence H. “Bud” Goodman Sr., 87, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Nansemond County and Suffolk and was a son of the late Willie Frank and Emmaline Howell Goodman.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Myrtle Keeter Goodman on June 30, 1998. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Phillip Goodman and Vernon Goodman.

Mr. Goodman was an active and the oldest male member of South Quay Baptist Church and was a charter member of Holy Neck-South Quay Ruritan Club.

Mr. Goodman was still active in the family farming business and was voted “Outstanding Farm Family of the Year” in 2004 for Suffolk by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

He served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart after being wounded Feb. 10, 1945, in Germany.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Lawrence H. “Larry” Goodman Jr. and wife Linda and C. Wayne Goodman and wife Chris, all of Suffolk; two granddaughters, Kelly R. Clem and husband, Michael, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Stephanie H. Goodman of Virginia Beach; a very special great-granddaughter, Hailey Renee Clem; one sister-in-law, Cynthia K. Garris and husband, Wesley, of Windsor; two brothers-in-law, Charles O. Keeter Jr. of Sedley and Carrol D. Keeter of Newsoms; and a special cousin, Myrtle G. Eason of Suffolk.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. John Watson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today (Sunday) and suggest memorials be made to South Quay Baptist Church, 9617 South Quay Road, Suffolk, VA 23437.
