Search crews seek a missing boater on the Western Branch Reservoir on Saturday afternoon. They found a body presumed to be his on Sunday afternoon.

Suffolk police divers pulled a body from the Western Branch Reservoir on Sunday afternoon.

The body, which police presume to be that of the 60-year-old boater who has been missing since Friday, was recovered just before 3 p.m., city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

Timothy Kurt Davis of Hampton was reported missing Friday night after he did not return from his fishing trip when expected, George said.

The man went fishing Friday in his 17-foot Bass Tracker boat. When he did not return home after dark, his wife called a fishing buddy of his, George said.

The friend checked some of the spots where they typically fish and found the man’s truck and trailer at the boat ramp on Girl Scout Road, George said. The friend tried to reach Davis by cell phone and then notified the U.S. Coast Guard when he did not receive an answer.

The Coast Guard notified Suffolk police about 8 p.m., George said.

Search teams found the man’s boat wedged under some low-hanging branches about 10 p.m. Friday night, George said. The throttle was in the on position, she said.

Teams from the Suffolk Marine Patrol and Dive Team, the Coast Guard, Virginia Beach and Norfolk marine patrols, and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries helped in the search Friday night and Saturday and Sunday until the body was found. It was located about 160 yards from the boat, George said.

An autopsy was to have been performed Monday.
