Woman charged with embezzlement

Suffolk police on Friday charged a Bed, Bath and Beyond employee with felony embezzlement.

Diane Elizabeth Cooke, 40, of Hampton, is charged with one count of embezzlement from the store in the 6200 block of College Drive.

According to city spokeswoman Debbie George, police say Cooke had been processing fraudulent returns and pocketing the money.

The scam involves obtaining customers’ receipts, processing a return transaction for items on the receipts and then keeping the refund.
