Eight Nansemond-Suffolk football players were named all-state by the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association last week. The honors cap a season, NSA’s first under head coach Lew Johnston, in which the Saints started out with a four-game losing streak before finishing with a six-game winning streak.
Five Saint seniors, Bobby Lamm, Clay Rabey, Ryan Serianni, Thomas Westfall and A.J. Hicks lead NSA’s group on the VISAA Division II Team. Lamm, Rabey, Serianni, Westfall and Hicks made up the whole senior class on the Saint roster.
Lamm made all-state as a defensive back, running back and kicker. He totaled 1,138 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns overall on offense, 31 extra points and three field goals.
Serianni, who made the team on both sides of the line, had 10.5 sacks, four fumble recoveries, three blocked kicks and an interception on defense.
Westfall, who was a second-team linebacker, had 4.5 sacks this season.
