Woman bitten by fox

A Suffolk woman will undergo treatment for rabies after she was bitten by a fox Monday.
Animal Control responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. from the Day Street area. The 69-year-old woman reported being bitten by a fox and received medical attention.
Later in the day, Animal Control officers and police responded to the area again for calls of a fox chasing people and attacking cars, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
Officers located the fox in a ravine between Day and Church streets, she said. It charged at the officers, so they shot and killed it.
George said the fox would not be tested for rabies, because there would be no benefit to testing it. The woman still would have to undergo rabies treatments, because it’s not certain the dead fox is the same one that bit her, and there already have been known rabies cases in the area, she said.
