On Jan. 1, 2012, Hurley Lloyd Jr. of 306 Beech St., Suffolk, peacefully departed this world at Virginia Veterans Hospital in Hampton.
A native of Suffolk, he joined East End Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Andrew J. Brown and Booker T. Washington High School. He was an Army veteran from the Korean War. He lived in New York for many years before moving back to Virginia.
Mr. Lloyd was fun-loving and down to earth with everyone. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by all.
He was the son of the late Hurley Lloyd Sr. and Gussie Lloyd. He was predeceased by his sister, Marion Wilburn, his brother, George Lloyd, a nephew, Gregory Wright, and a niece, Andrea Duffy.
Mr. Lloyd leaves to honor and cherish his memory a loving and caring sister, Bernice Lloyd Wright and devoted brother-in-law, Bobby C. Wright, of Portsmouth; three devoted nephews, Hurley Lamont Lloyd of Suffolk, Bart L. Wright (Betty) of Portsmouth and Maurice Withers of Portsmouth; six nieces, Marion Willis of Ghana, South America, Pamela West (Sheldon) of Chesapeake, Cornice Wilburn of Portsmouth, Sandy Bailey of Virginia Beach, Terry Eley of Suffolk and Hope Wright-Dunn (William) of Suffolk; a cousin, Curtis Williams of Suffolk; and a number of grand-nephews, grand-nieces and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at noon at Harris Funeral Home in Suffolk, with burial to follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at 306 Beech St.
