Nansemond River squeaked out two Southeastern District wrestling victories Wednesday night at Indian River, beating the Braves 42-38 and Oscar Smith 36-35.

The wins make the Warriors 3-2 in the Southeastern District and 12-3 in duals overall this season.

Warrior wrestler Nick Garland won with two pins in his 113-pound bouts running his records to 5-0 in the district and 22-0 overall on the season. Garland won his weight class and Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the Mike Duman Toys 4 Tots Invitational, with 16 squads competing at Nansemond River, two days before Christmas.

Trent O’Neal (132), Demetrius Ortiz (138) and Saquan Branch (145) also led the Warriors by going 2-0 against the Braves and Tigers.

The Warriors edged Oscar Smith despite the Tigers winning eight of the 14 classes.

The Warriors meet Hickory and Western Branch in a Southeastern tri-meet at Western Branch on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
