Police investigate serious Tuesday accident

Suffolk police are investigating a serious vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday night in which the driver fled the scene.
About 10:30 p.m., a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the 2200 block of East Washington Street when it ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail and a brick wall before overturning.
One passenger was ejected and pinned under the vehicle, and was later flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The driver fled on foot.
The passenger’s injuries are considered serious, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. Police are pursuing leads on the identity of the driver.
