A 23-year-old Suffolk man has been sentenced to five years behind bars for charges stemming from his sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl last year.

Robert Jeremiah Uhl was sentenced last week for charges of crimes against nature, using an electronic means to procure a minor for obscene activity, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and several probation revocations.

Uhl, of the 7100 block of Old Myrtle Road, sent a Facebook friend request to the teenage girl, whom he did not previously know. They ultimately met at a bowling alley and had sex, and the girl was reported as a runaway from home.

When Suffolk police received a call from another jurisdiction requesting a check on Uhl’s residence, they found the girl there. The girl’s mother later discovered that her 16-year-old had had sex with Uhl several times.

Uhl was sentenced to three years with two suspended for using an electronic means to procure a minor for obscene activity; four years with three suspended for crimes against nature; one year with six months suspended for each of two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and one year for each of two counts of a probation revocation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On an additional probation violation for crimes against nature, the suspended sentence of three years and eight months was revoked and then re-suspended.

Prosecutor Marie Walls said the probation after his release would come with terms and conditions, including no Internet access of any kind.

“That was a precursor to both crimes,” she said.
