Ryan and Ginny Tuttle check out the items in the silent auction at Paint the Town Red last year. Tickets go on sale soon for this year’s event.

The American Red Cross is looking for sponsors and guests for its annual Paint the Town Red event coming up in about two months. Tickets go on sale next week.

A variety of business sponsorships still are available, as well as tickets to the 14th annual fundraising event. Money collected helps support the mission of the American Red Cross Coastal Virginia Region, including disaster relief, services to the armed forces, health and safety training and preparedness courses.

“It’s to support the community, because we’re your Red Cross,” said Eve Robinson, development coordinator for the American Red Cross Coastal Virginia Region. “People should come to support the Red Cross, have a great time and get some great deals on auction items.”

The event will be held March 31 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn. Tickets are $60 each or two for $100.

The event features dinner, silent and live auctions, music and dancing. Guests also will be entertained by the celebrity waiters — local politicians, business people, television news anchors and other prominent citizens serving the guests and participating in waiter challenges.

Every year, the Red Cross responds to dozens of disasters in Suffolk, from single-family home fires to large-scale disasters like tornados and hurricanes.

The event provides support to be able to provide lodging and clothing assistance to the victims, as well as fund the other areas in which the Red Cross works.

The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $50,000. It raised $37,000 last year.

Business sponsorships also are available.

“It gives businesses the opportunity to get their name out there,” Robinson said.
