Cops: Mom stabbed daughter

A Suffolk mother was arrested Tuesday after police say she stabbed her teenage daughter in her sleep.

Rhonda Hingerty, 41, was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault.

Hingerty allegedly stabbed her teenage daughter “multiple times in the back” about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at their home in the 4200 block of Pruden Boulevard, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

She then turned the knife on herself.

George said the daughter’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening. She was admitted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The mother was treated and released at Norfolk General for multiple stab wounds.
