Isle of Wight Academy got 13 points from senior guard Ben Epps to beat Stonebridge Academy 47-32 Friday night at Jester Gymnasium.
Holding a six-point edge after three quarters, the IWA boys maintained their lead with 10-for-13 foul shooting in the fourth quarter. Epps was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line in that frame and did not miss on seven attempts on the night.
The Chargers were 20-for-29 for the night from the charity stripe and made 10 of 12 attempts in the final 2:10 of the game. They shot 69 percent from the line on the night, 13 percentage points higher than their season average of 56 percent going into the game with Stonebridge.
Junior center Nathan Sivertson added five hard-earned points and 13 rebounds against a stingy Stonebridge zone defense.
The Cavaliers were led by Alec Ferley, with 14 points. Teammate Kyle Akins was their leading rebounder with 11.
Isle of Wight (14-4 and 9-2 in the Metro Athletic Conference) now embarks on a key road trip, with games next week at Williamsburg Christian and Atlantic Shores. Stonebridge falls to 6-11, 3-7.
