NR grad is fifth highest scorer

Mount Olive College junior Andrea Jones, a Nansemond River High School graduate, averaged 16 points in two games last week as the Trojans’ winning streak reached eight games.

Last Wednesday night at home, Jones scored 18 points and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 98-60 win over St. Andrews University. Jones hit 3-of-5 three-pointers in the win.

Mount Olive’s winning streak came to an end Saturday night in Gaffney, S.C. as Limestone College handed the Trojans a 76-64 loss in a battle of division leaders. Jones and her teammates struggled shooting from the field, but the junior managed 14 points and four steals.

Jones is currently fifth in Conference Carolinas in scoring at 17.3 per game.

 

McDaniel College touched first in nine of the 11 events as part of a 56-37 victory over Elizabethtown in non-conference men’s swimming action on Wednesday.

Bryan Nuckles, a Nansemond-Suffolk Academy graduate, combined with Stephen Hoyt, James Eu and Jesse Mills in the 200-meter medley relay for a time of 1:42.76, which ranks sixth all-time for the school.

On Friday, Franklin & Marshall won the first eight events of the night to take a 61-24 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference men’s swimming action.

Nuckles earned the lone individual win for the Green Terror with a time of 1:05.78 in the 100 breaststroke.
