SUFFOLK — Walter E. Jernigan, 82, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents, Gertrude J. and Charles L. Jernigan; and stepbrothers, Charles L. Jernigan Jr. and B. Frank Jernigan.

He is survived by a niece, Patricia J. Bristow and husband, James; a great-niece, Elizabeth B. Simpkins and husband, Benny, and their children, Katelyn and Hunter Simpkins.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, in Newman Memorial Cemetery, Oakland Christian Church, 5641 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, Va., by the Rev. Tony R. Peaks. R.W.
