NSA teams lose in Norfolk

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s boys and girls basketball teams both lost to Norfolk Academy on Tuesday.

The girls lost their game 55-44, dropping them to 16-5 overall and 4-2 in their league for the season. The boys fell to 5-16 and 1-4 with their 46-59 loss.

With Tuesday’s wins over the Saints, perennial rival Norfolk Academy swept this year’s basketball matchups between the two teams.

The Lady Saints are led by sophomore Jessica Pieroni, who has a season average of 17.2 points per game and is the fifth leading scorer in the conference. Pieroni also leads the conference in free throw percentage, making 88 percent from the charity stripe. She had 20 points in Tuesday’s game, including seven from free throws.

Eighth-grader Harper Birdsong has been a big factor in the Saints’ success coming off the bench and is the team’s second-best scorer, at 12.3 points per game, though she had just three points on Tuesday.

Senior Morgan Lokie leads the Saints in assists and leads the conference in steals, while averaging six points per game. On Tuesday, she put up nine points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Leading the scorers for NSA’s boys’ team on Tuesday was Brandon Addison with 12 points. Jared Morse also contributed 10 points to the Saints’ totals and hauled in 13 rebounds, as well.

Both boys’ and girls’ teams will play tonight at Norfolk Collegiate.
