Two Isle of Wight Academy students diagnosed with pertussis, or whooping cough, have returned to school after being treated with antibiotics, Headmaster Benjamin Vaughan said.
“They went through the regimen of antibiotics and got a clean (bill of health) from doctors,” Vaughan said.
Both elementary students had been vaccinated, which is required by law, yet still contracted the highly contagious bacterial disease that causes violent coughing, Vaughan said.
One case was diagnosed last week and the other on Monday.
All students have received vaccinations for the illness.
