An automotive parts distributor will be the newest occupant of the Bridgeway Commerce Center when construction is complete on a 126,000-square-foot building set for a groundbreaking in March, city officials announced late Thursday.
Liberty Property Trust will begin construction next month on the $7.8 million warehousing and distribution center to be occupied by Dana Holding Corp., according to a press release from the city.
The structure will be erected at 6920 Harbour View Blvd.
“We look forward to breaking ground next month on our new project in Bridgeway Commerce Center and to expand our portfolio in Suffolk’s growing warehouse and distribution hub,” Liberty Vice President and City Manager Craig Cope stated in the release.
The company owns, leases and manages 26 properties comprising about 1.8 million square feet of space in Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Hampton.
“It is great to see that Liberty Property Trust has decided to kick off this next phase of development within Suffolk,” Mayor Linda T. Johnson stated in the release. “This kind of commitment is one more indication of Suffolk’s growing reputation as a great place to do business.”
According to its website, Dana Holding Corp., headquartered in Maumee, Ohio, supplies axles, drive shafts and transmissions, as well as sealing and thermal-management products and service parts for light- and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers.
The company employs approximately 22,500 people in 26 countries and reported 2010 sales of $6.1 billion.
