Isle of Wight Academy’s boys basketball team fought to a draw with its reserves and then sent in its regular troops to finish off Northeast Academy of Lasker, N.C., 72-53, Wednesday night at Jester Gymnasium.

Northeast led much of the first two quarters, but IWA took its first lead of the game with 2:44 left before halftime on a basket by junior Rainer Marfio to make it 28-26. Then the usual starters entered the game and quickly ran off the next 10 points, helping the Chargers cruise to a 37-30 halftime edge.

IWA kept its collective foot on the gas pedal in the second half, outscoring Northeast 15-2 in the first five minutes. The Chargers’ largest lead was 20 points, coming on a Hunter Triplett basket with 6:51 left in the game.
