Dump truck runs off road

A dump truck ran off the roadway on a Southwest Bypass on-ramp Monday afternoon. The driver reported that a tractor-trailer with a blue cab and white trailer ran him off the road.

The aftermath of a hit-and-run accident closed an on-ramp to the southwest bypass for about four hours on Monday afternoon.

The call came in at 3:19 p.m. A dump truck reportedly was hit by an 18-wheeler, causing it to run off the road at the Carolina Road on-ramp to the southwest bypass that connects Carolina Road to U.S. Route 58.

The ramp was completely shut down while workers attempted to get the dump truck off the guardrail.

The 18-wheeler that hit the truck and left the scene was described as having a blue cab and white trailer.

The road reopened just before 7:30 p.m.
