On Feb. 9, 2012, George W. Young Jr., 73, of 1413 Sierra Drive, departed this earthly life after a brief illness.
He was a native of Isle of Wight. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. George had a great love for cooking and a greater love for watching others enjoy his food. He was known by some as the “peanut man” and “Pop-Pop” by his great-granddaughter, Kamryn.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret M. Young.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, one son, George W. Young (Barbara), of Suffolk; two daughters, Loretta C. Young, of Capitol Heights, Md., and Gwendolyn D. Williams (Phillip), of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Latoya Lassiter (Danny), of E. Lansdowne, Pa., Dr. LaShica M. Young, of Denver, Colo., Clyde Williams III, of Suffolk, and Precious Desiree Young, of Suffolk; one great-granddaughter, Miss Kamryn Lassiter, of E. Lansdowne, Pa.; three sisters, Mary Young Gatling, of Holland, Barbara Wilson, of Suffolk, and Viola Stokes (Lee), of Franklin; one brother, Roy Powell, of Norfolk; a devoted friend, Nancy Jones; and a host of other family and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at St. Paul Baptist Church, officiated by Bishop Clarence V. Russell III. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at 221 S. Division St., Suffolk.
