A Suffolk man faces a felony charge after accidentally shooting his brother on Tuesday.
Robert Aldous Smith, 25, accidentally fired the weapon while the two brothers were playing in their Nansemond Parkway home, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
The victim, who is 22 years old, was not seriously injured, George said.
The incident happened about 7 p.m. One of the brothers hid in a closet, and the other brother pointed the gun at the closet and accidentally fired it, George said.
“Fortunately, he was not seriously injured,” she said. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder and then released from the hospital.
Smith is charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm, George said.
