Cover3 to offer meal program

Cover 3 Foundation will be a local sponsor of the Virginia Department of Health’s Summer Food Service Program for the second summer in the Hampton Roads and Western Tidewater area.

The organization, previously known as Cover 3 Football, is serving meals in 53 locations throughout the area. The summer program helps fill the summertime gap when many children who receive free and reduced-price meals during the school year may not get to eat.

Nearly 4,000 children will receive healthy and nutritious breakfasts, snacks and suppers daily. Among the returning sites for 2012 are Growing Up at Obici, the Suffolk YMCA, the annual Michael Vick Football Camp, Winchester Parks and Recreation, Camp Crestwood in Chesapeake, Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in Franklin, the YMCA’s in Portsmouth, Franklin and Emporia, and the Back to School Bash in Hampton.

The meals are offered to sites such as churches, community center, recreation centers, summer education programs, summer sports programs, vacation Bible schools, housing communities and back-to-school events.

There are numerous meal options available. If you are interested in receiving C3’s Kid’s Meals during the summer, contact Cover 3 Foundation office at 757-562-2252 or kidsmeals@cover3foundation.org.

The organization also is in need of volunteers to help with the program this summer. If you are a high school junior or senior wanting or needing community service hours; if you are a college student needing an internship in the areas of early childhood education, food service or office administration and management; or if you are an adult who just wants to give back to the community, email your resume to kidsmeals@cover3foundation.org.
