Car tax relief consequences

To the editor:
The promise to cut car taxes won the gubernatorial election for Republican Jim Gilmore in 1997.
During his campaign, he was asked, “How are we going to replace the revenue in order to maintain our transportation system (highways, safety, maintenance, construction, etc)?”
Cutting car taxes resulted in disaster for Virginia.
So, now we as taxpayers should stop whining about new tolls that we face to help improve our transportation situation. We brought this on ourselves from blindness and faith in our elected officials.
I hope Gov. Bob McDonnell does not lead Virginia into another disaster. There are consequences from all decisions.
