SUFFOLK — Dorothy Faye Owens Womack died March 7, 2012, at Lake Prince Woods. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to David Franklin Owens and Frances Fraser Owens on March 1, 1927.

She graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, as a journalism major in 1949 and was named one of the 12 outstanding seniors.

On June 14, 1951, she married Frank Wilson Womack Jr. They lived in Suffolk, Va.; Columbia, S.C.; Clearwater, Fla.; Montero, Calif.; Greensboro, N.C.; and lived on High Rock Lake, N.C. She was a homemaker and active in volunteer work throughout her life. She was a choir member for 30 years, served in all offices in Women of the Church, was the Chrismon Chairman at several churches and delivered Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is the author of “Keep in Touch: The Balser and Catherine Lybrook Family.” The book recollects her colonial pioneer ancestors in southwest Virginia. Her hobby was genealogy.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Womack Powell and husband, Lynn Eley Powell, of Franklin, Va.; one son, David Price Womack, of Clayton, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Meredith Price Powell and Griffin Eley Powell and wife, Brook Perry Powell, of Arlington, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wilson Womack, her parents and her sister, Roberta Owens Kruse.

The family would like to thank her companion, Helen Hushour, for her care and devotion during her time at Lake Prince.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 3 p.m. in the Portsmouth Center at Lake Prince Woods with the Rev. Dr. Woody Rea officiating. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
