Amelia Ann Piland

Amelia Ann Wright Piland, 83, passed away on March 13, 2012. She was born in Suffolk, Va., the daughter of the late Annie Sue Rountree Wright and Michael Phillip Wright Sr. She was also predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Howard Piland Sr. Ann was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, the Sadie Whitley Bible Class, the Mature Methodist Senior Group, the Providence Church Quilters, and past member of the Providence United Methodist Women. She also served as the former church treasurer. She was a member of the King’s Fork Women’s Club and was a former leader of the 4-H club and Cub Scouts. She was a former charter member of the Suffolk Quilters Guild.

Ann is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue Piland Johnson and Doug, of Suffolk, and Amelia Darnell Melton and Leslie, of Amelia, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Howard Piland Jr. and Brenda, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Brian Johnson, Scott Johnson, Lisa Roth, Amos Melton, Lucas Melton, Lottie Lehman, Katie Mast, Caleb Melton; 10 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; and brother, Wilbur A. Wright Sr.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Dr. Garland K. Hines Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mary Sue and Doug Johnson.
