A man found at a local school Tuesday morning suffering from memory loss has been identified and is safely back with his family.

Suffolk police were able to return this man to his family on Tuesday evening.

The man was from Portsmouth, a city spokeswoman said. He was identified after his picture was broadcast in the local media throughout the day.

The man was found just after 6 a.m. Tuesday at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Pruden Boulevard, according to the city. Although he is not a student there, he believed he was supposed to start classes there on Tuesday.

The man also told police he did not know where he lives, but believed it to be Emporia. He said that his birthday is Sept. 8 and that he is 15 years old, but he appeared to be much older, according to the city press release.

Ashley Greene, communications coordinator for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, said the school is glad the situation was cleared up before students began arriving.
