Police ‘tweet along’ begins soon

The Suffolk Police Department will host its first-ever “tweet along” beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.

The virtual ride-along will give followers a snapshot of officers’ shifts and their various job assignments. The first “tweet along” will feature a traffic officer. Another planned for next month will follow a member of the downtown gang unit, known as the Neighborhood Enforcement Team.

Tonight, Officer Eric Crawley will be on the lookout for people driving under the influence or violating other traffic laws. He will give followers a virtual view of his traffic stops and calls for service and put out driving safety tips.

“This will allow our citizens to get to know us and understand what our profession is like,” Police Chief Thomas Bennett said in a press release. “This type of virtual ride along is being done nationwide, and we thought it was a great way to make our department more accessible to the public.”
