Suffolk police are investigating an incident where a man told police he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his weapon.

The man, who lives on North Nansemond Drive, said he was moving things from his storage locker and putting boxes away in his garage when he came across his revolver.

He decided to clean the gun, sat down in a chair, crossed his legs, pulled the trigger and shot himself in the left ankle.

The incident is under investigation, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
