Storm blows into second

Members of the Southampton Storm 12U travel team took second place in the Silver Bracket during a recent tournament. Southampton Storm 12U took second place in the Silver Bracket at the 2012 Softball Nation Tidewater Opener in Virginia Beach on March 17 and 18.

The Tidewater Opener tournament hosted 26 teams in the 14U and 12U age divisions. Southampton Storm 12U competed on Saturday against Carolina Fear 12U, Elite Fastpitch 12U and Richmond Ruckus 12U, ending the day with a 1-2 record and placing them among the six teams in the Silver Bracket for Sunday.

The first game Sunday was against the Virginia Lady Eagles 12U, which resulted in an 8-5 victory for the Storm. The Championship game, which featured the Storm against the Hampton Roads Warriors, resulted in a 12-5 loss for the 12U Storm team.

“The girls have worked really hard in the off-season, and I am very pleased with their performance,” said Ronnie Vincent, head coach of Storm 12U. “We have areas we need to work on, just as any team does. We are looking forward to a great season with this group of girls.”

The Tidewater Opener was the second tournament for the 12U team this season. The goal of the 12U is to go to Softball Nation Nationals in Richmond in July.

Southampton Storm Fastpitch is a travel team organization with three teams competing in Softball Nation, NSA and USSSA tournaments. The teams consist of talented fastpitch players from Franklin, Southampton County, Sussex, Windsor and Suffolk.
