Police have arrested a suspect in the attack of a 92-year-old woman on Thursday evening.

William K. Ruffin, 42, has been charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding. He currently is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

The assault occurred about 6:20 p.m. at the Oakwood Assisted Living in the 2500 block of East Washington Street, city spokeswoman Debbie George said in a media release.

On Friday morning, the woman was in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she had been flown by Nightingale air ambulance after the assault.
