Pastor Sarah Q. Hill, 85, of 1002 Bank Street Ext., Suffolk, Va., died Friday, April 6, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., and the daughter of Henry Dowdy and Cora Dowdy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Lloyd A. Hill Sr.; one daughter, Alice F. Hill; two sons, Lloyd A. Hill Jr. and Joseph Hill.

She was affiliated with the Pentecostal Holiness Churches of America Inc. She was the pastor of St. Matthew PHC, General Mother of PHC, member of Elder’s Board, Treasurer’s Board, and founder of The New St. Matthew’s Holiness Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Sylvia Ann Stevenson, of Suffolk, Gloria J. Hunt (Cleveland), Ethel R. Savage (James), Jo L. Mason (Abel), Paula A. Majette (Gerald), all of Suffolk; one son, Paul A. Hill (Linda), of Suffolk; adopted son, Gregory Robinson; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Claretha Thorne, of Suffolk; niece and mother of church, Mother C. Armstrong, of Suffolk; daughter-in-law, Ruth Hill, of Suffolk; a devoted friend, Pastor C. B. Skinner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Tabernacle Christian Church, 2500 E. Washington St., Suffolk, officiated by Asst. Pastor Jo L. Mason. Entombment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A viewing will be on Friday, April 13, 2012, from noon to 8 p.m. at St. Matthew PHC, 213 N. 4th St., Suffolk.
