The grand jury on Wednesday handed down 119 indictments to 51 defendants, including teens charged with gang participation, two men accused of a downtown shooting, an alleged arsonist and a juvenile charged with attempted murder.
They were among 51 defendants indicted on 119 charges.
Three of the defendants — Demetrius Lamar “Meathead” Bazemore, Trashion Brown and Deshaun Tyrel Griffin — all are charged in connection with the Dec. 12 robbery of a pizza delivery driver in the 100 block of South Fourth Street.
Police say they were acting as a gang when they allegedly approached the driver, produced a handgun and demanded money.
In a separate case, Raheem Dasean Artis and William Jeffrey Holland are indicted in connection with a shooting on Wilson Street on Jan. 21.
The victim, a 20-year-old male, was shot in his left arm, right thigh, hip and groin.
In another case, a man indicted last month for second-degree murder of his girlfriend was indicted this month for allegedly burning someone else’s duck blind.
William Daniel Conroy Jr., 20, allegedly burned the duck blind on May 12 last year, about three weeks after his girlfriend went into cardiac arrest. Tests showed she died because of a combination of Coricidin, an over-the-counter cold medication, and a prescription narcotic, fentanyl, that was not prescribed for her. Police allege he gave her the drug.
Finally, 16-year-old Saquan Stroud was indicted for attempted murder. City spokeswoman Debbie George said she could not give out any information on Stroud because of his age.
